Through its Turnkey Facilities Program CSDC takes on the role of property owner, developer and manager, providing charter schools with facilities at market or below-market rates.
CSDC created this program to help charter schools focus on their true mission: education. Be they charter school start-ups in need of space on an interim basis, or more established charter schools looking for a solution to their facility needs without having to own and manage their own property, CSDC provides space that meets schools' needs and budgets. The Turnkey Facilities Program has provided 635,000 square feet of educational facilities for 16 schools (tenants) serving over 4,300 students (67% low income) in 3 states plus the District of Columbia.
A school should contact CSDC if:
- the school identifies a building for sale that is too large for their start-up enrollment but will accommodate long term growth and there's another charter (or compatible tenant) with whom they can co-locate on a short term basis (for example, Great River School).
-
the school identifies a building for sale but is not in a position to negotiate a purchase agreement and arrange financing and/or lacks resources to do real estate development and wants a turnkey solution, with a built-in purchase option (for example West Gary Lighthouse Academy Charter School).
