Does my charter school qualify for a BBF enhancement?
The Building Block Fund works with non-profit charter schools and education and charter management organizations, and assists both start-up and existing charter schools in need of short- or long-term facility solutions. Any non-profit charter school, in any state, that is in good standing with the chartering authority qualifies for BBF consideration.
How do I apply for help from the Building Block Fund?
First, contact your local lender or landlord regarding your financing needs, and obtain a conditional term sheet for your project. This sheet will specify the credit enhancement you'll need and will serve as your application to CSDC for Building Block Fund assistance. Send it to us and we'll work directly with you and your lender or landlord to see how we can be of help.
Does a charter school need to be open to receive credit enhancement?
A school does not have to be open to qualify for BBF help, although, generally, it must have received its charter.
Can the Building Block Fund provide help for other purchases, like equipment or materials?
No. The Building Block Fund only provides credit enhancement for loans to purchase, renovate or expand facilities.
Can a facility house more than a charter school?
Yes, but a charter school, or schools, must be the primary user of the facility. A charter school may rent out a portion of its facility (or all of the facility for part of the time), but the primary purpose of the facility must be for a charter school(s).
